Electronics recycling and recovery for New Zealand organisations

Responsible e-waste processing for businesses, government and institutions. Equipment is assessed for reuse first, then dismantled, sorted and prepared for material recovery.

  • Reuse and resale assessed first
  • Manual dismantling and sorting
  • UPS and lithium-ion batteries accepted
  • Data destroyed before recycling

What we process

Three groups of equipment, from the data room to the office floor. Working and non-working equipment is welcome. Something not listed? Ask us.

Batteries and bulk

Specialised streams

Batteries, large clear-outs, and the circuit boards inside everything else.

  • Battery systemsUPS batteries and lithium-ion batteries, sorted or unsorted. Lithium-ion is handled by the kilogram.
  • Bulk logisticsEnd-of-life clear-outs, damaged or obsolete mixed e-waste, and industrial decommissioning.
  • Advanced recoveryManual deconstruction for circuit-board recovery and material separation.

The recycling workflow

Every batch follows the same five steps, with reuse checked first. Data is destroyed before any of this starts: see data destruction.

  1. Assess for reuse

Working equipment is assessed for reuse and resale before anything is recycled.

  2. Dismantle

Units are taken apart by hand and components isolated. Hazardous parts such as batteries are separated.

  3. Sort

Metals are identified by grade, ferrous is separated from non-ferrous, and circuit boards are sorted by grade.

  4. Shred and separate

Industrial shredding and magnetic extraction separate the remaining material.

  5. Recover

Prepared materials go to specialist recovery partners, where circuit-board materials are refined and returned to manufacturing.

How materials are sorted and recovered

After reuse is checked, what is left is separated by material, so each stream goes to the right place.

  • Metals

Identified by grade and separated into ferrous and non-ferrous, so each stream can be recovered cleanly.

  • Circuit boards

Sorted by grade and prepared for specialist recovery partners, where the materials are refined and returned to manufacturing.

  • Polymers

Separated from metals during dismantling and shredding, so materials stay as pure as possible.

  • Batteries

Separated as hazardous parts during dismantling and handled as their own stream.

Every device is a resource

We believe every device has value, either in reuse or in the raw materials it contains.

Recycling recovers materials and reduces the need for virgin materials, which supports a more circular economy for Aotearoa. For the full service, see IT asset disposal.

  • Precision dismantling

We prioritise recovery over crushing. Our team dismantles hardware by hand to separate circuit boards, clean metals and polymers, so materials are sorted with the purity that real circularity needs.

  • Refined resource recovery

We prepare materials to the standards of our global specialist recovery partners, so the complex chemistry of circuit boards can be refined and returned to the manufacturing stream.

  • Verified accountability

Audit-ready reporting, including a digital chain of custody and certificates of destruction, is available so your assets are tracked from pickup to final processing.

Electronics recycling: your questions

Straight answers on what we take, what happens to it, and the records you receive. Not covered here? Ask us.

What can you recycle?

Enterprise IT such as laptops, desktops, workstations, rack servers, storage arrays and network equipment. Workplace electronics such as monitors, docking stations, TVs, keyboards, mobile devices, tablets, cabling, printers and scanners. And batteries, including UPS and lithium-ion. If something is not listed, ask us.

Is my data destroyed before recycling?

Yes. Every storage device is erased with certified software or physically shredded before the equipment is recycled. See the Data Destruction page for how the two methods compare.

Do you reuse or resell equipment?

Yes. Working equipment is assessed for reuse and resale before anything is recycled, so less ends up as waste.

What happens to the materials?

Equipment is dismantled by hand and the components are sorted, including metals by grade and circuit boards. Prepared materials go to specialist recovery partners, where circuit-board materials are refined and returned to the manufacturing stream.

How do you handle batteries?

We accept UPS batteries and lithium-ion batteries, sorted or unsorted, with lithium-ion handled by the kilogram. Hazardous parts are separated from the rest of the equipment during dismantling.

Do you take damaged or obsolete equipment?

Yes. End-of-life clear-outs and damaged or obsolete mixed e-waste are accepted, working or not.

What records do I receive?

A manifest with time-stamped photos of what left your site, an asset audit log, erasure certificates for each erased device, and serialised certificates of destruction for shredded media. Existing clients can also see their records in the client portal.

How do I arrange a collection?

Book online or call 0800 4 EXTECH. Send an asset list, or rough quantities if you do not have one yet, along with your location. We collect nationwide, with sites in Auckland and Wellington.

How much does recycling cost?

It depends on what you are sending, how much, and where it is. Send an asset list or rough quantities through the enquiry form and we will come back with a quote.
